How to schedule Instagram Reels

Schedule Reels to publish automatically on Instagram — what you need, how the API works, and the limits that catch people out.

The short answer

Reels can be scheduled to publish automatically, with no phone reminder, if you have an Instagram professional account (Business or Creator). Any tool built on Instagram's Content Publishing API can do it — including Meta's own Business Suite and snazzy's free tier.

Step by step

  1. 1Convert to a professional account

Instagram's publishing API only works with Business or Creator accounts. In the Instagram app: Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account. It is free, reversible, and does not change how your profile looks to followers.

  2. 2Connect the account to a scheduler

You authorise the tool through Instagram itself, and you see exactly which permissions you are granting. Nothing gets your password — the tool receives a token you can revoke at any time from Instagram → Settings → Website permissions → Apps and websites.

  3. 3Upload the video and write the caption

Vertical 9:16 MP4 is the format Reels expects. Write the caption now; it is published atomically with the video, so there is no window where the Reel is live without it.

  4. 4Pick a time and let it publish

The post sits in a queue until its slot. On snazzy a cron runs every minute, so a Reel scheduled for 09:00 goes out at 09:00 — you do not need your phone, and you do not need to be awake.
